Client Transformation: Dave Thomas

One of the best things about working in the fitness industry? Seeing our clients make incredible transformations — hands down! Dave Thomas, 44, is another PTC success story! We sat down with him and talked about some of the changes he’s seen since he started workout out with us two years ago.

How did you first hear about PTC?
My girlfriend started working out with PTC first. She tried to convince me that I ought to consider personal training, but I was reluctant.

What inspired you to schedule your first appointment?
I had a routine physical, and my doctor encouraged me to become more active. With a history of heart disease in my family, he told me that I needed to lose some weight.

Thinking back, did the idea of beginning your fitness journey seem scary or intimidating?
I didn’t want to work out around other people … I never really felt like I was a gym person. After going once, my fear of going to a gym went away. I realized that PTC is a small, intimate setting and there aren’t a ton of other people. I was sold. I was pretty sore the first couple of weeks, but two years in, I can’t imagine not doing it. It’s life changing. My work out days are my favorite days.

What changes were you hoping to make in your life?
I wanted to be healthy for my kids … and eventually for my future grandchildren.

What is your favorite thing about working with the PTC trainers?
It’s amazing. Everything about the experience has been great. Early on, Bryan sat down with me and talked me through the whole process. We discussed goals, and that really helped me understand what was happening.

How has your life improved since you began your journey?
I lost 40 pounds in the first 6 months. Now, I’m focusing more on building muscle and toning up. I primarily work with Fran, and he really puts thought into my workouts. He keeps detailed records, too. He knows me, and he tailors my workouts to my goals. It’s been a pretty cool journey. In addition to losing weight — pounds and inches — I’m eating better, sleeping better, and thinking more clearly. Being more fit has really helped me get my life in order. It impacts everything.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about taking the leap?
The best place to do that is PTC. Get in there and do that first workout. Give it that one shot, and you’ll be surprised when you’re still at it two years down the road.
